What do I need to pack before coming to Japan?

  1. You might want to bring some clothes, since the sizes in Japan are pretty small (especially for men).
  2. Also extra shoes, for the same reason as above.
  3. Medicine. There are usually no English explanations, so I believe it will be a challenge to try out the ones available on pharmacy shelves. Also most Japanese clinics are open only 9-6pm, weekdays only. Please also check if the medicine you would like to bring is actually approved in Japan too.
  4. Some foods you especially like. There are Costco in Japan and many international supermarkets are available, but you may not be able to find the specific products you are looking for or the prices might be more expensive.
  5. Toiletries, for the same reason as above.
  6. Books and magazines, English books are pretty limited in Japan. There is an English book section at the largest book stores in Tokyo, but you might want to begin using electronic books to avoid bringing heavy books.
