What is CHIC?
CHIC stands for Community House & Information Centre, and is a nonprofit organization which supports expats moving into the Kansai area. They offer a variety of classes such as cooking, health fitness, language, as well as children’s classes which you can attend with your children. They also organize activities and day trips so that you are able to meet with other residents of Kobe. They offer a wide selection of English publications which may help you to explore the city. Examples of CHIC publications are the Restaurant guide, Living in Kobe, and Exploring Kansai. Anyone is able to join CHIC regardless of nationality. There are currently 300 families from over 35 countries. The membership fee is 4,000 yen for one term and 6,000 yen for two terms. The CHIC office is located in Rokko Island.
